HISTORY
Although this temple is said to date back to the Treta Yuga in the primary mythology, its exact construction date is unknown. However, the early phases of Keralan temple construction are represented by architectural styles. The sanctum sanctorum’s substructure dates from the early tenth century or before. According to a number of well-known historians, the existence of two inscriptions from the tenth century unquestionably confirms this It is thought to have been built in the first few years of the tenth century.
FESTIVALS
The ten-day Lord Mahadeva festival takes place during the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December–January), drawing thousands of devotees from throughout the central Travancore region. From the second to the sixth day of the celebration, the idol of the lord is transported to several locations connected to the temple upon a captured elephant. The ceremonies are exclusively conducted inside the temple’s walls starting on the seventh day. The statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi are carried in a grand procession to the Manimala River on the tenth day in preparation for Arattu.
