DIETY-NAGARAJA
HISTORY
One of Kerala’s oldest temples, Mannarasala Temple is thought to have been built more than 3,000 years ago. It is devoted to the serpent deity Nagaraja and his spouse, Nagayakshi.Lord Parasurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is credited with creating Kerala, founded the Mannarasala Temple. At this location, it is stated that Parasurama placed the statues of Nagaraja and Nagayakshi and started the practice of serpent worship.
FESTIVALS
The Mannarasala Ayilyam festival, which takes place in the Malayalam month of Thulam (October–November), is the temple’s most significant celebration. It is thought to be Nagaraja’s birthday. At the event, devotees from all over the world gather to give unique prayers and rituals in an effort to obtain the blessings of Nagaraja and Nagayakshi.
FAMOUS AS
The temple is well-known for its unique devotion to serpent worship, where followers pray for benefits linked to fertility, wealth, and recovery from snake-related illnesses. It is thought that offerings and prayers conducted at the Mannarasala Temple can both bring blessings from Nagaraja and lessen the impact of snake curses.
