DIETY–SREE MUTHAPPAN
HISTORY
According to mythology, Muthappan was raised by a tribal family and was given the name “Muthappan” at birth. As a result, he became friends with a tribal man named Chantan when he arrived in the village of Kunnathurpadi. The child requested for the toddy after seeing Chantan tapping one from the palm tree one day, but he was turned down. Chantan was suddenly turned into a stone and cursed. In the month of Dhanu, his wife prayed and offered to carry out the rites of Oottu, Tiruvappana, and Amruthakalasam in order to appease the boy. The boy handed her husband back after giving in. The Chantan family began doing pooja in order to bless the boy, and they gave him the name “Muthappan.”
